Coral Gardeners Restoring the Reefs

Created in 2017 near the French Polynesia, the Coral Gardeners are expert marine scientists who have a passion for marine life conservation, more specifically with the restorations of coral reefs. Originating from a small group of local islanders wanting to make change, the Coral Gardeners have transformed into a widely innovative brand that uses its resources to facilitate their main goals of reef restoration, innovation, and awareness.

Reef Restoration

The coral gardeners utilize modern technology that has the sole intent to grow and develop coral reef ecosystems by creating coral ropes that extend along the ocean seafloor into an underwater nursery. The process begins with the scientists diving to the ocean floor at preexisting coral reefs, where they then find what they term as, climate-resistant super corals. From there they take small portions of existing coral and cut them up into smaller pieces that are then attached to ropes and placed in the underwater nurseries. Lastly, they monitor the growth and progress of the placed coral, and once matured they rehabilitate it back into the original reefs they came from.

Innovation

Continued development of scientific resources and routines has been an important element for the Coral Gardeners to keep advancing their overall goals of marine life conservation. Their team of experts will always strive to progress these efforts in an open-source, collaborative and effective way. With 4 connected reefs and thousands of corals being constantly roped, surveyed, and replanted, the success of their ultimate efforts is shown through their platforms such as TikTok, where you can see some of their projects below.

Awareness

With the use of several platforms, the Coral Gardeners have been able to raise awareness to global audiences at over 200 million people reached. Their Instagram is at 575k followers, where they likely have the most reach and ability to showcase their work through underwater photography. Their TikTok has also recently been taking off, having some of their videos trend on the FYP such as the shown example from above. The Youtube channel for the brand is also an effective tool to showcase videos to audiences about their efforts that are longer and more detailed. Some example posts from each page can be seen below.

How to Get Involved and Take Action

Adopt a coral, and/or donate. The coral gardeners have an option on their website where you can order and adopt a coral from 5 available species that they would then grow, plant, and replenish to the original reefs. You then have the choice to name your coral, further receiving digital cards that show your coral. You will also be able to track the journey of your adopted coral, all the way up until it is grown, matured, and out planted back onto the reefs. The team will also send email updates about your coral, and any other important progress or developments made within the Coral Gardeners Brand. They even give you the option to purchase full scale models, where you can buy the coral ropes, tables, and even sponsor nursery sites in the French Polynesia, to start a coral restoration journey along with the Coral Gardeners. So now is the time to look into the brand and get involved, for the ultimate goal to restore and maintain marine ecosystems, especially when it comes to endangered coral reefs.
